10 April 2024 DOWNER AWARDED $320 MILLION ROAD MAINTENANCE CONTRACT IN VICTORIA Downer EDI Limited (Downer) today announced it had been awarded a road maintenance contract by Victoria's Department of Transport and Planning valued at an estimated $320 million over a maximum term of eight years. The contract begins in July 2024 for an initial four-year term, with the option for two two-year extensions. Under the contract, Downer will deliver routine maintenance, planned maintenance, defect inspections, hazard rectification and emergency response services to more than 1,600 lane kilometres of road and 1,900 structures in metropolitan Melbourne's Western region. This new contract is the expanded next generation of the maintenance contract that Downer has held for the past six years. The Chief Executive Officer of Downer, Peter Tompkins, said the contract reinforces Downer's position as the leader in road maintenance across Australia and New Zealand. "Downer maintains more than 50,000 kilometres of roads across Australia and New Zealand, including more than 10,000 lane kilometres of State roads in Victoria alone," Mr Tompkins said. "We have been successfully maintaining roads in Victoria for more than 20 years, and we look forward to continuing to work closely with the Department of Transport and Planning to deliver reliable road networks that ensure safe and enjoyable journeys, while also providing sustainable employment outcomes for the local communities, as well as opportunities for socially responsible suppliers."
